GVI Autoworx has been family owned for 13 years. The Owner, Vladimir Gurlov, relocated his family from Uzbekistan, of the former USSR, in 1990 hoping to flee religious persecution as a Christian. He was fortunate enough to move his wife and 13 children to Utah where he began his new life in the auto body repair business. While working as an employee at another body shop, he would finish his work at 5pm and then work until 3am at his own shop. Over the years, he was able to train 8 of his boys in the field of bodywork, paint and frame.

Vladimir was meticulous in his workings with metal, plastics and paint. His attention to detail was subsequently passed on to each of his family members. The pride in their work can only be described as “European/American Craftsmanship” as it was in the United States back in the early 20th Century, much of which has been lost by today’s craftsmen.

Every member of the Gurlov family is humble, and proud to be in the United States. Over the past 13 years, GVI has grown from a one-man operation and has expanded to 11 of his children and 4 other employees. Previously, one year ago, before GVI relocated to West Valley City, all of the vehicles that were repaired were taken to the Dealer’s Auctions and sold. Customers used to walk on the car lot where the cars would be staged before the auctions. Numerous inquiries by the public about purchasing the cars encouraged Vladimir to sell the vehicles to the public at the same wholesale prices that the dealers were paying at the auctions. GVI has not sold a vehicle at the auto auctions for over a year.

Our reputation has been spreading only by word of mouth. This, in itself has been a humbling experience for the entire family. We have informed our customers that have purchased cars, that we cannot pay them a “spiff” for referring their friends and associates back to us…but that we will provide them any and all accessories to them at our cost.

Our customers are told that we do not have any “sales people.” Sales persons in the auto industry have ruined the reputation of truth and honesty for the entire industry. We provide an honest service to the public at a price thousands of dollars below the NADA low book. These are the prices that dealers pay at the auctions, transport the vehicles back to their dealerships and then tell you that “They might be able to take a couple hundred dollars off the price of the car…if you are prepared to buy, today!” Our customers are instructed to take our cars to either a dealership or a reliable mechanic to verify the information that GVI has provided them. Their decision to purchase a vehicle from GVI Autoworx should rest on the recommendations of the mechanic only.

A business does not have to be greedy to be successful. How we lead our lives and how we operate our business will determine our success or failure in the future.
